FLYERS MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE CORNWALL, PEI, December 5, 2009 - The Moncton Mark’s Work Wearhouse Flyers scored hree third period goals including the eventual game by Zack Cahill to edge Cornwall Superior Thunder 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the APM Centre in Cornwall.
The win by the Flyers and a loss by Miramichi Rivermen to Saint John Vitos gives the Flyers an one point lead in the NB-PEI Major Midget Hockey League standings.
The Thunder struck first when Brandan Carter scored at 9:57 of the first period un assisted. The Thunder carried that lead through to the second period.
Shane Dallaire tied the score for the Flyers 1:40 into middle frame with assists from Lindon Beckwith and Cahill but at 15:20 Evan Carmody capitalized on a powerplay opportunity to renew the Thunder’s one goal lead.
That lead stood up until 2:17 of the third period when Sean Killaire tied the score again, this time at 2-2. At the 16:45 mark Cahill scored the game winner from Kyle Beckwith and Dallaire. Matt LeBlanc rounded out the scoring and clinched the win for the Flyers with an empty net goal with 24 seconds remaining in regulation.
Brandon Thibeau stopped 17 of 19 for the win while Dylan McQuaid gets tagged with the loss despite making 40 saves.
Cornwall's next home game is against the Charlottetown Islanders in Montague at 7:00 pm
