Congratulations to Adam McQuaid on getting called up to the
Boston Bruins. Adam played for the Cornwall Thunder in the
2002/03 season getting drafted by the Sudbury Wolves in 2003.
McQuaid, 23, is in his third professional season, all spent with
Providence. He ranks third among P-Bruins defensemen with 10 points
this season, including three goals and seven assists in 29 games. His
best contest came on November 22 against the Manchester Monarchs,
registering three points, including his first career two-goal game, and
a plus-four rating to be named the game's second star. The blue-liner
also leads the team with a plus-13 rating, tied for seventh in the AHL,
and he sits second on the club with 66 penalty minutes. The NHL recall
is the first of McQuaid's young career.
As a pro, McQuaid has
appeared in 175 regular season games, totaling 34 points (8g, 26a) and
280 PIM, along with three assists and 35 PIM in 26 playoff contests.
Last season, the native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, set
career-highs with four goals, 11 assists, 15 points and 141 PIM in 78
regular season games to earn Providence's Fan Appreciation Award. As a
rookie with the P-Bruins in 2007-08, McQuaid was named the team's Man
of the Year and Community Service Award winner.
Prior to
entering the pro ranks, McQuaid enjoyed four seasons in the Ontario
Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves, scoring 86 points (19g, 67a) and
392 PIM in 292 games between the regular season and postseason. He was
drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets 55th overall in round two of the
2005 NHL Entry Draft and was later traded by Columbus to Boston on May
16, 2007 for the 129th overall pick (Jamie Benn) in the 2007 NHL Entry
Draft.
