MONCTON,
NB - December 18, 2009 - In a game that saw two goals scored each
period, one early and one late, it was the Moncton Marks Work Wearhouse
Flyers that got the most goals to defeat the Cornwall Thunder 5-1 in
NB-PEI Major Midget action.
There’s was a lot of
scrambling on both sides as both teams seemed to be looking forward to
the Christmas break rather than at the game to be played. But Moncton
capitalized on their chances scoring both goals in the first, one in
the second and two more in the third to skate away with a win.
Brett McNeill got the home team on the board just over eight minutes
into the game when he took a pass from Matt LeBlanc and Sean Killaire
and dumped it home. The second goal of the period came off the stick of
Zack Cahill who took a lead pass from Rejean Martin and threaded his
way down the ice dodging several defenders before getting off a shot
that seemed to freeze Dylan McQuaid in net.
The Flyers went up by three just over five minutes into the second when
Alexandre LeBlanc drove a pass from Nick Smith deep into the net. But
this time the Crnwall Thunder replied almost 10 minutes later when
Devan Gunn finally got a puck past Brandon Thibeau to get the Thunder
back in the game. He was assisted by Devon Parsons.
Both goals in the third cam from the same line with Rejean Martin
getting the puck in the net just seconds after the Flyers had killed a
penalty with help from Alexandre LeBlanc and Nick Smith. Then seven
minutes later the same trio made it 5-1 with Martin again driving the
puck home.
Winning goaltender Thibeau made 28 saves while McQuaid faced 33 shots, making 28 saves in the loss.
Cornwall will continue on to Saint John to meet the Vitos at 4:00pm at the Lord Beaverbrook Arena.
