Thunder have a 3 point weekend to end of 2009
Overtime gave the Miramichi Rivermen a 6-5 win over Cornwall Thunder is NB-PEI Major Midget Hockey action this evening.
Both teams will meet again Monday for an afternoon game, the last of 2009 for the league.
Lewis capped off a two goal, two assist game with the winning goal
after the Thunder had forced overtime with a late third priod effort by
Isaac Jay. The Thunder had played catch-up hockey all game, as the
Rivermen led every period 2-1 after the first and 4-3 after
2. It took two power play goals in the third with the home team only
managing one to force overtime.
The Rivermen, who played with a shortened bench, five of their players
were out, used five scorers in the game with Philippe Arseneau getting
the first goal to be followed by Colby Lawson. Lewis, Alex Blais and
Brett Malone also counted in regulation.
Dakota Vessey had a pair for the Thunder while Brandon Carter, Josh
Bowman and Jay replied for the visitors. Adam Wight and Evan
Carmody had a pair of helpers each while single assists went to
Jonathan Richards, Devan Gunn, and Carter had singles.
Also getting assists for the Rivermen were Cole MacDonald with two,
Rankyn Campbell, Arseneau, Tommy Bezeau, Maxime Godin and Malone.
Both goalies were kept busy with Alexandre Jean Maillet kicking aside
27 shots for the win and Chris Gallant making 33 saves on 39 shots in
the loss. Cornwall Thunder had three power play goals on five
opportunities while the Rivermen made good on one of two chances.
MIRAMICHI, NB - December 28, 2009 - The Cornwall Thunder decided
it was time for a win after losing last night in overtime and today
they defeated the Miramichi Rivermen 4-1 in the second game of a two
game series.
Miramichi will meet the other Island team, the Charlottetown Islanders
this coming Saturday at 5:30 at the Lord Beaverbrook while Cornwall
hosts the Fredericton Canadiens at the APM Centre at 4:30pm.
Cornwall held the Rivermen scoreless until early in the third while
scoring twice, ten minutes apart in the second. Devan Gunn got them on
the scoreboard with help from Griffin Gallant and Brandon Carter at
8:58 and just under 10 minutes later Evan Carmody put them up by two.
The Rivermen struck at 2:44 of the third to get within a goal when
Philip Arseneau drove home a power play goal assisted by Brett Malone
and Tommy Bezeau but Dylan McQuaid slammed the door shut and held them
scoreless for the rest of the 20 minutes while Adam Wight and Isaac Jay
made sure the Thunder would go home with a win.
Carmody and Gunn got assists on those goals.
McQuaid was called on to stop 33 of the 34 shots to keep the win while Julien Daigle faced 34 shots in the loss.
