THUNDER DEPART NB-PEI CELLAR WITH VICTORY SAINT JOHN, NB, February 3, 2010 - The Cornwall Superior Thunder moved out of the NB-PEI Major Midget Hockey League basement by defeating the Saint John Vitos 4-1 in a makeup game played Wednesday night at Harbour Station in Saint John.
The Thunder move one point ahead of Charlottetown Mark's Work Wearhouse Islanders. The Thunder is now 9-18-1, sven points back of the fourth place Vitos, while the Islanders record is 8-17-2.
The teams played to a 1-1 draw in the opening period. The Thunder then scored two in the second and one in the third to take control of the game and skate away with the win.
The Vitos played the game with six affiliated players replacing missing veterans, while Cornwall 3 affiliates with 4 players not making the road trip.
Devan Gunn and Brandon Carter each scored a pair of goals to lead the Thunder to the win. Gunn also contributed an assist. Other assists were credited to Drew Coulson, with a pair , Josh Bowman, Issac MacDonald and Drew Parsons.
Ryan Langan scored an unassisted first period goal for Saint John.
Dylan McQuaid made 18 saves to record the win while Andrew Mergl made 10 saves in a losing effort.
Cornwall next game will be in Moncton on Sunday @ 4:00 pm
