THUNDER GOALTENDER NB-PEI PLAYER OF WEEK
CORNWALL, PEI, February 12, 2010 - A sixteen year-old rookie goaltender with the Cornwall Superior Thunder in the NB-PEI Major Midget Hockey League has been named the league's Phantomwear Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending February 7th. The award comes on the eve of one of the busiest stretches of the season for the Cornwall based squad.
Dylan McQuaid, a resident of Cornwall, was stellar in helping his team to two wins on the week. On Wednesday, the Thunder travelled to Saint John to take on the Vitos, and earned a 4-1 win with McQuaid turning aside 17 of 18 shots. He topped that performance Sunday as his team skated to a 2-1 victory over the first place Moncton Marks Work Wearhouse Flyers, stopping 26 of 27 shots for the win.
McQuaid, who stands six-foot-two and weighs 206 pounds spent last season with the Mid Isle Matrix of the PEI Midget AAA Hockey League. He will celebrate is 17th birthday in two weeks.
The Thunder will see action at home four times this weekend following a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Charlottetown Marks Work Wearhouse Islanders Wednesday. On Friday at 7:45pm in Evangeline as they play host to the Vitos. Saturday, they play the Vitos again, this time with a 4:30pm start at APM Centre in Cornwall.
Sunday the team hosts the Fredericton Darcy Simon Canadiens at 2:00pm at the new Montague Wellness Center. Their busy weekend schedule concludes with a 2:00pm game Monday at the Community Garden in Kensington against the Vitos for the third time during the weekend.
