VITOS END LOSING STREAK DOUBLE THUNDER
KENSINGTON, PEI, February 15, 2010 - The Saint John Vitos had not won in eight games including all seven this month going into Monday's NB-PEI Major Major Midget Hockey League game with Cornwall Superior Thunder Monday afternoon at the Community Garden in Kensington but they put that behind them by doubling the Thunder 6-3.
The Vitos scored twice in the first period and four teams in the second and then held on in the third despite being outshot 20-8 in the final 20 minutes. Goaltender Kyle Cameron stopped all 20 of those shots by the Thunder and 28 of 31 in the opening 40 minutes.
Alex Aiton led the way offensively with two goals. Marcus Mason, Matt Porter, Sam Maguire and Andrew Dolan scored the other goals for the winners.
Stefan Lapierre in the first and Brandon Carter and Devan Gunn in the second scored for the Thunder.
Thunder goaltender Dylan McQuaid gave up two goals on six shots before giving way to Chris Gallant at 14:57 of the first period. Gallant stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced.
Cornwall's next game is vs Charlottetown on Thursday Feb 25 at 8:00 pm. This game could decide who gets home ice advantage for the playoffs
