CORNWALL,
PEI - February 27, 2010 - The Charlottetown Islanders made it two
straight wins in the PEI Provincial championship best of seven series
edging the Cornwall Thunder 7-6 in double overtime Saturday night in
Cornwall.
The next game is scheduled for Tuesday night at 8:00pm at the MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown.
Although the Thunder got out to a quick start, scoring twice in the
first five minutes of the game, the Islanders came back to even the
score in the first and then scored three unanswered goals in the second
to take the lead, chasing the Thunder’s starting goalie from the
game.
Then it was Cornwall’s turn as they scored three to tie it up and when
Charlottetown scored a late goal to go ahead again, the Thunder roared
back just two minutes later to force overtime.
Both teams were unable to get the puck in the net in the first 10
minute overtime and it wasn’t until over 15 minutes into the second
that Craig Dougan finally put the winner in the net unassisted.
Dougan scored two goals for the Islanders while Harrison Wood, Brandon
Weir, Craig MacLauchlan, Blake Millman and Cody Coffin each contributed
one. Cleve McNeill and Brad MacKenzie each had a pair of assists.
Brandon Carter and Evan Carmody both got a pair of counters for the
Thunder, while Logan Smallman and Devan Gunn each had a single. Adam
Wight and Isaac Jay had a pair of helpers each.
Stephen Miller was thew winning goaltender, making 44 saves over the
course of the 5 periods. Dylan McQuaid started the game making 9 saves
on 13 shots. He was replaced by Chris Gallant who finished the game
with 21 saves.
